Coolangatta, Australia |
On a weekend in mid March, continuing our visits of different beaches on the weekend, a couple of friends and I headed down to the annual Quikslilver and Roxy Pro surf competition at Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta. This is one of my favourite places, my local beach even though it’s an hour and half form where I live. There’s the variety of sheltered and surfing beaches at Greenmount and Rainbow Bay, the rocky drama of Danger Point and Snapper Rocks, shops and cafes and stunning views. It turned out the competition wasn’t on for the weekend as the waves just weren’t big enough for the pro’s to compete on. However we were still lucky enough to see some great athletes show off their skills in an Expression Session.
Between beach time on Saturday we wandered up to Cafe Dbar for brunch smoothies, salads and longboards…wishing we could have everything on the menu, the took in the stunning views of the ocean into the horizon overlooking Snapper Rocks & Rainbow Bay. We spent the evening on the balcony of our Outrigger apartment, watching the sunset and the ocean waves, with wine, cheese and discussions on life. Sunday started with breakfast at Café Enchantè , which looked so delicious we couldn’t decide between pastries or omelettes and had to have both…with no regrets.
